The Psychology -and Art- of Remembering Places

Do you live in the past? Do you want to live in the past? Is 'nostalgia' good or bad? Is repeating the past always bad? Some people will only live in a modern space but will only go out to eat in an elegant re-creation of the past. Others will only eat in the most modern place but will live in a re-creation of the childhood home or a world from the past. The psychologiy of our relationships with the past are actually a new academic discipline. Even for someone with a photographic memories--every time he or she remembers something, that process of remembering in itself always colors that memory and alters that memory forever. Memories are abtract impressionist critiques on reality. I use modern abstract methods, techniques and artistic mediums--oil and cold wax, aaplied in gestural action strokes often with spatulas and dry wall trowls, to recreate place memories for my past and the past of others close to me. that are usually in themselves, re-creations or restorations of times past.
